Relations.. Of all Sorts...

Well well.. Good day again!! It's Thursday, I'm at work, and the world outside seems dull and grey. I think it's going to rain... Or not... There's the SUN!!!!

I had the most enlightening conversation with another of my boys on Sunday... We talked about what he would do if he had a girlfriend. You should have heard his responses! Poor baby... I have just realised that most of you haven't a clue to as to what to do in a relationship. How to start, manage, and end one. So sad... It makes for a lot of non-closure hanging around in people's lives... It could all be prevented, you know... Not that my relationship makes me an expert, but then again, this in MY blog, no? Ha.

How are you supposed to start a relationship? We've been brainwashed by the novels, the music, the movies. We think that a relationship is supposed to start with both parties deciding that they like each other, and somehow that attraction is going to be enough to carry you through. Consider, the fact that, most of you are teenagers. Now, then thing about teenagers is that they are just getting to know these substances called hormones. Hormones are very powerful things. They make you grow, time your body clock, and, more importantly to this discussion, regulate your libido.

Let me put a warning here: Many of you have been brought up to sexual attraction as taboo. Too bad. I am going to be explicit. If you are going to be offended, shoo. Go do something else, like play Neopets. With that out of the way, let's get back to business.

Now, when you are a teenager (defined as a human person between the ages of 13 - 19) your body produced lots and lots of these wonderful things called hormones. Guys have testosterone, and ladies have estrogen and progesterone, along with a little bit of testosterone thrown into the mix. (Now you know why girls have PMS and mood swings. If you want to know the details, Ask me yourself.) These three hormones are our sex hormones, and therefore regulate our libido, otherwise known as sex drive. Thus, sex drive and hormones are directly proportionate; the more hormones, the more libidinous you are. Teenagers produce lots and lots of these hormones, so guess what?! All of you are probably quite easily 'turned on' to, and by, the opposite sex. (It should be the opposite sex, but with some people, you can never tell.)

The books we read, the movies we watch, and society itself has tuned us to believe that a relationship starts with the physical rather than the emotional. We have read of and seen explosions and fireworks, the instant attraction, etcetera etcetera ad nauseam. Sadly, some of us believe it. Now that we've learned about hormones, let's put it all into context.

Hormones, sadly, are not under our control. One cannot control who he or she is going to be physically attracted to. I wish we could, but sadly, we can't. Thus, very often we see an attractive girl/guy and Bam! The hormones start flying all over the place. Being the people that we are, we immediately think its True Love, along with all the butterflies in the stomach, the sweaty palms, quick heartbeats, giddy flirtations, and all the rest of the nonsense. Sadly, these physical reactions come under the control of, guess what?! Our hormones! Congratulations! You just won a trip for two to the Bahamas! Yeah right.
